K Cyrus Robinson is President and Founder of armONx. He holds many patents.
In 2011 Cyrus understood that concrete is the most-used man-made material but is porous like a sponge and so, needs ongoing maintenance. Unfortunately, this demands significant resources, labor, and simultaneously reduces concrete's lifetime. For example, in the Tampa Bay, FL area alone, several hundred pressure-washing companies incessantly toil at removing pollutant stains from these surfaces - that always return - while their equipment belches noxious fumes into the environment. The maintenance process also unfortunately erodes the very surfaces it is meant to maintain.
Other porous hardscape materials such as stone are similar.
The need to reduce maintenance and environmental impact is urgent.
So, Cyrus gathered a team to address these issues. The team is deeply experienced in science and technology, with graduate degrees including doctorates in physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, and business, having decades of experience in surface science and in the management of intellectual property and patents.
Cyrus and team developed nanotechnology solutions for these problems in both existing (topical) and poured ready-mix (integral) applications. The technology allows surfaces to derive energy from their surroundings, so the surfaces actively work to keep themselves drier and cleaner - automatically.
This work won research funding from both the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Florida High-Tech Corridor. A vanishingly small proportion of projects are funded by these groups.
Cyrus' solutions:
- Make money
- Reduce CO2 footprint/generation by tons
- Reduce labor by several times
- Reduce water use by several times
- Increase concrete lifetime significantly - which also makes money
Cyrus has patents on these novel approaches.
